With 14 years of experience as a local authority solicitor, Lyana brings a wealth of expertise to her practice as a Consultant Barrister at Unit Chambers. Working in a busy legal department, she specialised in child protection work, developing a deep understanding of social services practices, policies, regulations, governance and best practices. Her extensive background equips her with exceptional insight into the intricacies of public law cases, enabling her to provide strategic and effective representation.
Lyana is known for her clear and empathetic communication with both lay and professional clients, as well as her innovative approach to problem-solving. Since joining the Bar, she has built upon this foundation, honing her advocacy skills—particularly in cross-examination—and excelling in the preparation of core court documents to ensure her clients’ rights and interests are robustly represented. Lyana plays an active role at Unit Chambers, both as a team player and as the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Officer. In addition to her in-chambers contributions, Lyana is passionate about outreach and development. She recently presented to solicitors at an education workshop, focusing on supporting solicitors considering a transfer to the Bar, reflecting her dedication to helping others within the legal community.
Lyana is currently a mentor at the University of Staffordshire Mentoring Scheme and recently participated in the Young Lawyers Mentorship Pilot Programme between the Bar Council and the Law Society of Kenya.
