Work Experience

If you are between 16 and 18 years old and interested in a career as a barrister, we may be able to offer you work experience, which is a unique opportunity for you to gain an insight into the day-to-day work of a barrister.

We will be taking part in this year’s Bar Placement Week which aims to give more students from widening participation backgrounds to experience life at the Bar, by shadowing practicing barristers and undertaking advocacy training from Tuesday 2 July – Friday 5 July 2024.

Who can apply: state-educated sixth form and college students and 1st year undergraduate students who previously attended a state-educated sixth form and college can independently apply to the scheme.

How to apply:

Eligible students can:

  1. Download the application form (MS Word).
  2. Get the consent form signed by their parent, carer or guardian – this is at the bottom of the application form.
  3. Complete the equality monitoring form online (this is voluntary).
  4. Email your completed application form and consent form to [email protected] by 09:00 on Friday 3 May.

Terms and Conditions

Those undertaking work experience are normally expected to be available between 9am and 5pm.

We can offer opportunities including experiencing a day in the life of a barrister or family clerk as well as 1-2-1 Teams calls with our barristers to learn more about what they do on a daily basis.

All work experience students will be expected to sign a confidentiality agreement.

Please be aware that if you are under the age of 18, it is unlikely that you will be able to attend a courthouse and therefore will be mainly based in chambers.
