Unit Chambers are delighted to announce that leading family law silk Liz Isaacs KC has accepted an invitation to join Unit Chambers as a Door Tenant. Liz remains in practice as Head of Chambers at St Ives Chambers in Birmingham.

One of the UK’s most established family law barristers, Liz will be a key addition to the team and she will bring over 25 years of experience and expertise in all aspects of family law. She was called to the Bar in 1998 (Lincoln’s Inn) and was appointed King’s Counsel in 2013. She was appointed a Recorder (Public and private Family law) in 2009 and a (Family) Deputy High Court Judge in 2016. She is a qualified Family Arbitrator (children) and is a member of the Institute of Family Law Arbitrators (IFLA) scheme.

She has an established national reputation for a compassionate, pragmatic, and strategic approach, excellent advocacy, and forensic preparation in complex public law cases. Liz has substantial expertise in acting for all parties in complex care, adoption, and wardship proceedings and has a detailed knowledge of the legal and social care issues relating to local authority planning and decision-making for children.

Liz is highly regarded for her personable style with clients and works collaboratively with solicitors and junior counsel in tactically planning cases as a team from the very outset of her involvement.

She is a contributing editor to the Family Court Practice. In 2019 she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Coventry University in recognition of her contribution to family law and equality law. Liz is an expert authority in all aspects of private child law disputes with a particular interest in LGBT parenting issues, parental alienation, habitual residence, relocation, disputes about relocation, religion and medical issues, and surrogacy and fertility law. She is frequently instructed in cases following the breakdown of surrogacy arrangements or same-sex parenting arrangements.
